Country running because of overseas Pakistanis, says Prime Minister

He emphasized that embassies should change their attitude towards the Pakistani diaspora.

Addressing Pakistani ambassadors stationed around the world, the Prime Minister confessed that due to other engagements he could not pay as much attention to (Pakistani Missions) as he should have.

“Unfortunately the way Pakistani embassies are functioning, missions cannot function like these, our ambassadors are behaving badly towards Pakistanis abroad,” he added.

The Premier thought that the feedback he got from the embassy in Saudi Arabia was disturbing. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates account for most of the remittances, and Pakistan has been safe from bankruptcy due to remittances from the overseas community.

“Pakistani expats are our precious asset, we want our ambassadors to have a better attitude towards overseas Pakistanis, the job of embassies is to serve their citizens, the attitude of embassies is just like the colonial era rulers had,”

PM clarified that “This insolence is unacceptable and this should have to be changed.”

Referring to complaints received at Citizen Portal about the absence of diplomatic staff, Imran Khan notified that Pakistani emissaries posted abroad do not meet with the general public in the allotted time as there is no system in the consulates for redressal of public grievances.

He also read out a complaint alleging the NADRA's staff at the Kuwait office was taking 250 to 500 dirhams for making illegal documents.

“Instead of taking action against him, the embassy is saying that NADRA documents are made at the headquarters.” He conveyed.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to access the embassies based on foreign investment and report to him that which mission is working more vigorously.
