United States Marine Corps initiated an investigation into the incident.
California: A US fighter jet crashed near a military base in California, prompting investigations by Marine Corps authorities, as reported by US media.
An American fighter jet, a F/A-18 Hornet, crashed near a military base in California, a mishap confirmed by Marine Corps spokesperson Marlene Corps.
The F/A-18 Hornet jet went down approximately 15 miles from the Miramar air station near San Diego, as indicated by sources.
While investigations into the incident have been launched by the Marine Corps, no information has been released regarding the condition of the pilot on board the aircraft.
In a statement issued by the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), it was mentioned that there are no indications of ground properties being affected as a result of the crash.
The San Diego Fire Rescue Department, along with a helicopter crew, is actively engaged in search and rescue operations near the crash site, according to ABC News.
It's worth noting that in 2008, another F/A-18 departing from Miramar collided with a residential area in San Diego, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals. The pilot, however, had survived the incident unharmed.
