Lahore: While protesting against expensive electricity, former Defense Minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khawaja Asif said that 85% of electricity is stolen in some cities and markets, therefore the rate is increased to cover the loss of power theft.

Talking to a private new channel, he stated that 24% tax is being charged in electricity bills. “Tax collection is the responsibility of Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), but tax is also being charged in electricity bills”.

Khawaja Asif added that no one uses the natural light, the markets open after 12 at noon and shops are using high watt bulbs that consume more electricity.

“Members of National Assembly (MNAs) or ministers do not get electricity for free, however the judiciary and bureaucracy use electricity for free, said Khawaja Asif.
