Govt to extend deployment of Rangers in Karachi

Karachi: The caretaker Sindh Cabinet has decided to extend the deployment of Rangers in Karachi for another six months.

According to details, a cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir in which Provincial Ministers, Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, Inspector General (IG) Sindh Rifat Mukhtar along with Principal Secretary Hasan Naqvi, Advocate General, Prosecutor General and other relevant officers participated.

In the meeting, IG Sindh briefed the cabinet on law and order situation in the province.

IG said that 218 people were abducted in 2023, of which 207 were recovered and 11 people are still hostages.

On this occasion, the caretaker chief minister of Sindh directed the IG to recover the hostages immediately, to appoint police officers and officials with good reputation in the area and to replace those policemen who are not performing well.

It was decided in the meeting to extend the deployment of Rangers in Karachi for another 06 months, according to which the deployment will be from September 14, 2023 to February 2024.

The caretaker chief minister of Sindh has also ordered IG Sindh to conduct a decisive operation against street crime.
