After the notification, the refund will start from the industrial customers of Karachi.
Islamabad: After the verdict issued by the Supreme Court, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a decision to withdraw Rs3 per unit as subsidy to K-Electric from industrial consumers.
It has been stated in the decision of NEPRA that the authority to grant subsidy lies with the federal government. After the decision, the federal government will issue a notification.
After the notification, the refund will start from the industrial customers of Karachi.
It is pertinent to note that federal government had announced the industrial relief package from July to December 2019 which was applicable for peak hours and off-peak hours. However, the government abolished the discount for off-peak hours on January 22, 2020.
After the federal government's decision, K Electric started collecting the subsidy amount, but the collection was stopped after being challenged in the court.
