Lahore: Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman said that two artificial rain projects are under consideration to deal with smog in Punjab, however the World Bank officials do not agree with these projects.

While talking to the media in Lahore, Zahid Akhtar Zaman stated that the causes of smog must be examined in detail, we are working together with the World Bank to control smog.

He added: “The World Bank officials do not agree with artificial rain projects, they are importing 30 electric buses to eliminate smog, Lahore needs 1400 buses for better travel facilities”.

The Chief Secretary of Punjab continued to say that the principle decision has been taken to shut the operation of Chingchi rickshaw in Lahore. There are 900 illegal workshops for these vehicles.

It has also been decided to shut the manufacturing of new Chingchi rickshaws and its sale in the market.

Zahid Akhtar Zaman said that the smog testing equipment is also not satisfactory while there is a discrepancy in the data of different institutions regarding smog.

Talking about the evacuation of illegal Afghan residents, he added that 900 Afghan refugees have been expelled from Punjab so far, and four billion dollars were being lost annually due to Afghan transit trade and smuggling.

The Chief Secretary Punjab stated that due to the cessation of smuggling, the price of sugar has reduced significantly and the quantity of wheat has become abundant.
