Former Pakistani cricketer Aizaz Cheema’s father passes away
Lahore: Mehdi Ilyas Akhter Cheema, father of former Pakistani cricketer Aizaz Cheema died after protracted illness in Lahore on Thursday at 5:30 am.
On his official twitter handle, Aizaz Cheema shared the heart breaking news and wrote, “inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him shall we return)”.
He further wrote, “With great sorrow it is to inform you all that my Beloved Father Mehdi Ilyas Akhter Cheema passed away this morning at 5:30am 27th May 2021”.
Former cricketer urged fans to pray for the departed soul.
“We request you to kindly pray for his maghfirat and recite SURAH FATIHA for the departed soul,” he added.

Aizaz bin Ilyas Cheema known as Aizaz Cheema is a former Pakistani fast bowler who played in seven Test matches, scoring a single run without being dismissed in five innings.
The wicket-taker at the domestic level, is also an international cricketer from who played from Quetta Gladiator side in Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Cheema was part of the national team at the 2010 Asian Games in China that won a bronze medal by beating Sri Lanka.
His performances at the first-class level seemed to be a lot more impressive, but a foot injury in 2008 almost put an end to his career, which ruled him out of action for some time.
However, he made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in 2011, aged 31.
