Pakistan gets another 1.55 million doses of Sinovac vaccine

Islamabad: In a special flight, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) transported 1.55million doses of Sinovac vaccine from the Beijing Capital International Airport to Islamabad on Sunday.

As per details, in PIA’s flight PK-6852, a special consignment of Sinovac vaccine of 1.55 million doses has arrived Islamabad airport.

According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), this is a part of planned contracted quantity purchased from China.

Reportedly, the national flag carrier via its special flights has already airlifted one million coronavirus vaccine procured from China to Pakistan this month.

Moreover, another consignment of two to three million doses of Chinese vaccines will reach Pakistan next week.

However, measures are in place to transport the vaccines to all federating units according to their requirement.

The government has run a massive vaccination drive across the country to achieve the target of providing 70 million doses of vaccines aimed at fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.  So far, over 10 million people have been fully vaccinated.

Islamabad received the first COVID-19 vaccine consignment after a military aircraft transported it from Beijing on February 01, this year.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistani health authorities had launched a nationwide vaccination drive with around a million doses of Sinopharm vaccine.

The drive began with a focus on the oldest people in the community, generally over the age of 80, and worked its way down.

For the time being, government have started vaccinating people above 18.
