Rain predicted, floods, landslides alert across country
Heavy rains are expected in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the first phase
Lahore: In view of the arrival of a strong rain system in the country, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted heavy rains across the country from August 26 to August 29.
According to the official agency report, heavy rains are expected in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the first phase, while later the powerful rain system will affect Sindh and Balochistan.
According to the NEOC, there is a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas due to heavy rains, while the rain has been predicted in the divisions of Punjab including Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Murree, Guliyat, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Leh, Muzaffargarh, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Khanpur, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Kirk, Kohat, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Kurram, and Waziristan, which is likely to cause flooding.
The NDMA has directed all concerned agencies and the public to take precautionary measures in hilly and low-lying areas, while also directing emergency response teams to be ready and use all means in view of adverse weather conditions.
