Lawyers storm Islamabad High Court building, proceedings suspended
Islamabad: Lawyers in Islamabad on Monday aggressively protested against the demolition of their chambers by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) situated at the Islamabad judicial complex.
In a latest development IHC CJ Athar Minallah has ordered all allied courts of IHC to stop their operations till next directive. The reports of IHC CJ meeting SCP top judge also floating around.
A crowd of lawyers smashed windows in the Chief Justice block located inside Islamabad High Court (IHC) building. Lawyers chanted slogans outside the top judge of IHC. A Special Security Unit was not present in the building when the lawyers protest took place. IHC CJ Athar Minallah was reportedly forced to impound himself to in chamber as the aggression extended. The protesting lawyers also chanted slogans against the IHC CJ.
While many journalists and protesters clashed when the former tried to record footage of the disordered mob.
The entrances to the IHC have since been closed since 10am, adding that lawyers and clerks have been barred from entering, and the service road leading to the court premises has also been blocked.
The CDA had on Sunday demolished illegal chambers set up by lawyers in the site of the district and sessions court in Islamabad.
