Petition seeks to declare amendment to PECA Act null and void

Islamabad: The Anchors Association has challenged the amendment to the PECA Act in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Senior anchorpersons Hamid Mir, Naseem Zahra, Adnan Haider, and Amir Abbas filed a petition against the amendment to the PECA Act. The petition has been filed through President IHC Bar Association Riyasat Ali Azad and Imran Shafiq Advocate.
The petition seeks to declare the amendment to the PECA Act null and void.
It is pertinent to note that after the approval of the parliament last month, President Asif Ali Zardari had ratified the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Amendment Bill 2025.
The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Amendment Bill 2025 has become a law after the president’s signature. Journalists had also walked out of the parliament proceedings against the PECA Amendment Bill.
