Fine imposed for washing cars at home

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) remarked that if washing cars in homes is stopped, half of the water can be saved. Those who wash cars in their homes should be fined Rs10,000 and petrol pumps that do not have a water recycling plant should be sealed and a fine of Rs100,000 should be imposed for repeated violations.

Justice Shahid Karim of LHC heard the case regarding smog prevention, during which various departments presented reports.

Judicial Commission Member Hina Hafeez said that a meeting was held with the Chief Secretary regarding water conservation. The court remarked that what happened to the proposal to form a water authority? The water problem is not only in Lahore but the entire Punjab. It is good that the government has focused on the entire Punjab.

The court also directed to increase the fine for rules violators.

During the hearing, the court expressed concern over the traffic arrangements during cricket matches in Lahore and remarked that it was known three months ago that the Champions Trophy was to be held here, but no one came out of the offices here. The traffic system is in disarray, people are suffering, and posters of alternative traffic routes should be put up.

The court summoned the CTO Lahore in person for the next hearing.

During the hearing, the court also expressed concern over the performance of the PDMA and remarked that this institution is not working and needs to wake up.

The court directed that no project should be started without the approval of the Environment Department.

Justice Shahid Karim also expressed regret over the waste of water in mosques and remarked that we go to pray but waste water. Instead of taps, mosques should have water tanks from which water should be drawn through a can and ablution should be performed.

Later, the Lahore High Court also sought a report regarding the water meter at the next hearing and adjourned the further hearing of the case till February 10.
