Elon Musk makes billion-dollar bid to acquire OpenAI
Tesla founder offered $97.4 billion to buy renowned company OpenAI

Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, made a bid to acquire OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Tesla founder Elon Musk has offered $97.4 billion to buy the renowned company OpenAI.
The report states that Musk's lawyer submitted the offer to OpenAI's board of directors. However, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, rejected the offer and, in a sarcastic tone, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Thank you for the offer, but we are not selling OpenAI. However, if you'd like, we are willing to sell Twitter for $9.74 billion”.
It is pertinent to note that Musk has been in a dispute with Sam Altman, and has even filed lawsuits against OpenAI and Altman.
Elon Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Sam Altman and Greg Brockman. However, in 2018, Musk distanced himself from OpenAI, stating that AI technology could be more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
Later, in 2023, Musk founded his own AI company, ‘xAI,’ which is striving to make a significant impact in the field of artificial intelligence.
