NEPRA Chairman and members had automatically increased salaries by almost three times


Islamabad: The federal government has issued a show cause notice to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) over the automatic salary increase.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat was held under the chairmanship of Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan, in which the federal government issued a show-cause notice to NEPRA over the automatic increase in salaries.
The NEPRA Chairman and members had automatically increased their salaries by almost three times.
According to media reports, the approval of the federal cabinet is mandatory for increasing salaries, but the NEPRA increased the salaries by Rs2-2.2 million without any approval.
According to Secretary Cabinet Kamran Ali Afzal, an explanation has been sought from NEPRA to find out the reasons for the increase in salaries.
The Secretary Cabinet says that the increase in salaries is a violation of Section VIII of the NEPRA Act, they will have to give a written explanation as to why they took this decision.
The Secretary Cabinet said that all regulatory bodies come under the Prime Minister or the Cabinet.
