President Zardari urges stakeholders to prioritise national interests and set aside personal and political differences for sake of country

Islamabad: In a strong address to the joint session of the Parliament on Monday, President Asif Ali Zardari raised concerns over the unilateral policies of the Shehbaz government, suggesting that such actions are undermining the strength of Pakistan's federating units. His comments came amid an uproar by opposition benches.
Zardari emphasised that Parliament must play a more proactive and effective role in meeting the public's expectations. “We must create opportunities for the youth of the country,” he said, calling on lawmakers to prioritize policies that would ensure future growth and empowerment for younger generations.
In his speech, Zardari also stressed the importance of supporting small-scale businesses, which he described as the backbone of the country’s economy. "The Benazir Income Support Program is a lifeline for the poor segments of our society," he added, reaffirming the need to protect social safety nets that benefit the vulnerable population.
Highlighting the need for economic growth, the President called for a concerted effort to boost Pakistan’s exports, noting that the country’s stability and prosperity depend on it. He also pointed to key infrastructure projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar as essential drivers of development and international trade.
Zardari reiterated the necessity of making national policies with the consensus of all stakeholders, urging that no decision should be made in isolation. "We cannot afford to have policies that benefit only a few regions. Every part of Pakistan must experience the fruits of development," he said.
In conclusion, the President appealed for unity, urging the government and opposition to work together for the collective well-being of the nation. "A stable and prosperous Pakistan is the shared goal of us all," he asserted.
