Mustafa Amir murder case: Father and son clash in court during case hearing

Karachi: During the hearing of the Mustafa Amir murder case at the Anti-Terrorism Court, a heated argument between Armaghan, the accused, and his father, Kamran Qureshi, led to a dramatic disruption in the courtroom. Kamran Qureshi was escorted out by police after the tension escalated.

The argument began when Armaghan’s lawyer, Advocate Abid Zaman Khan, announced that he would no longer represent Armaghan due to a lack of understanding with Kamran Qureshi. Armaghan confirmed his strained relationship with his father, saying, “I don’t want to meet my father; I won’t talk to him.”

As the situation grew more intense, Kamran Qureshi disrupted the proceedings, asking his son to leave him if he refused to acknowledge him as his father. The court had no choice but to remove Kamran from the courtroom, with police officers escorting him out.

After the disruption, the court extended Armaghan’s physical remand until March 24, in relation to both the Mustafa Amir murder case and the journalist firing case. The court also ordered the submission of a progress report at the next hearing.

In a separate case, police had previously submitted a charge sheet in the court of the Judicial Magistrate (South) against Armaghan for threatening a lawyer, Advocate Saif Jatoi, who represented the plaintiff in cases filed against Armaghan. The charge sheet states that Armaghan admitted to threatening the lawyer and his family on WhatsApp in April 2024.

A case was filed against Armaghan at the Boat Basin police station. Police have submitted the challan for non-arrest of the accused. On February 17, the ATC Clifton gave police permission to interrogate Armaghan, and during his jail interrogation, he confessed to his crime.
