Thick smoke makes it harder for rescuers to reach those inside

Karachi: A rescue operation is ongoing after a fire broke out at Kawish Plaza on Karachi’s Sharea Faisal Road on Friday, according to a statement from a Rescue 1122 spokesperson.
The fire started in the generator on the second floor, creating thick smoke and making it harder for rescuers to reach those inside. People in the building climbed onto the rooftop and are expected to be rescued soon. The rescue team, which includes fire trucks, an ambulance, and firefighters, arrived as soon as the fire was reported.
Rescue 1122 is working to control the fire quickly, the spokesperson said. Sindh’s Minister for Rehabilitation, Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman, has also ordered that the rescue operation be sped up.
Fires are a common problem in Karachi, largely because many buildings lack proper fire safety measures.
