Meeting will specifically focus on potential appointment of two additional judges to Supreme Court from LHC

Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Khan Afridi has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission on April 8 to deliberate on the proposal of bringing two judges from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the Supreme Court.
The meeting will specifically focus on the potential appointment of two additional judges to the Supreme Court from the Lahore High Court. According to sources, the meeting will also consider the promotion of five senior judges from the Lahore High Court for elevation to the Supreme Court.
This development comes after the Judicial Commission's previous approval on February 10, 2025, to appoint six permanent judges and one ad hoc judge to the Supreme Court. On February 13, the newly appointed judges took their oaths of office in a formal ceremony at the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice Yahya Afridi administered the oath.
The six permanent judges who were sworn in include Justice Amir Farooq, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Shafi Siddiqui, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, and Justice Hashim Kakr. Additionally, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb was appointed as an ad hoc judge and also took the oath of office.
