FIA arrested Farhan two days ago on charges of violating PECA laws

Karachi: Judicial Magistrate East has handed over journalist Farhan Mallick to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a four-day physical remand.
The FIA arrested senior journalist Farhan two days ago on charges of violating PECA laws, after which he has now been handed over to the FIA on a four-day physical remand.
The journalist’s lawyer opposed the FIA’s request for physical remand, saying that the FIA had acted contrary to the High Court’s order.
Condemnation of Farhan Mallick’s arrest
On the other hand, the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) and the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) have condemned the arrest of Farhan Malik.
AEMEND called the FIA's action malicious and demanded Farhan’s release, saying that he had already said that PECA law would be used against journalists.
PFUJ said that this move by the FIA is an open attempt to suppress freedom of expression.
Moreover, Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili and Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan have condemned and said that the targeting of journalists who criticize the government is a negation of democracy.
