Authorities urge residents to secure loose items, stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm to stay safe

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong windstorms on Friday and Saturday evenings (April 18–19) in several parts of the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The alert comes a day after a powerful hailstorm hit the federal capital and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), damaging vehicles, solar panels, and trees.
According to the NEOC advisory, the Pothohar region, upper and central Punjab could be affected by the severe weather. Heavy rains and windstorms may damage infrastructure, disrupt transportation, and impact agriculture.
Strong winds could uproot trees and cause temporary power outages. Dust storms and hailstorms may damage rooftops, vehicles, power lines, and other weak structures. Hail also poses a serious risk to crops and glass-based outdoor installations.
The advisory also warns of reduced visibility, increasing the chances of traffic accidents during the stormy conditions.
Authorities have urged residents to secure loose items, stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm to stay safe.
