US says it is targeting Houthi terrorists to prevent attacks on international shipping in Gulf

Sanaa: US airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, have killed 12 people.
According to the Yemeni Houthi rebels' Ministry of Health, the US bombed a market and residential area in the Farwa district of the capital Sanaa on Sunday night, killing at least 12 people and wounding 30.
The Yemeni news agency said that US airstrikes were also carried out on Sunday night in the central province of Marib, the western city of Hodeidah, and the northern region of Saada. There were no reports of casualties in these attacks at the moment.
It is pertinent to note that the US military has been carrying out airstrikes on Yemen on an almost daily basis for the past month.
The US says it is targeting Houthi terrorists to prevent attacks on international shipping in the Gulf.
Earlier, 80 people were killed and 150 injured in an airstrike on Yemen’s Ras Issa oil port on Thursday.
On the other hand, the Houthi rebels have not only targeted US military ships but also attacked Israel.
The Houthi rebels call these actions an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza.
Background
The Houthis began targeting ships heading to the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Israeli territory after the war in Gaza began in October 2023. However, these attacks were stopped during a temporary ceasefire in January.
In early March, Israel cut off all supplies to Gaza and resumed its military operations on March 18, which also ended the brief ceasefire.
When Israel resumed its siege of Gaza, the Houthis threatened to attack the ships again, after which the United States also launched airstrikes on them.
