Computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued at no cost


Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has abolished the long-standing fees for birth and death registration.
According to a spokesperson’s statement, the Punjab Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025 have come into effect, under which registration of births and deaths across the province will now be free of charge.
On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued at no cost. Citizens can register these events without any fees at Union Councils and Municipal Committees for up to seven years.
Additionally, the requirement for a court decree for late registration of birth or death has also been removed in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that identity is a fundamental right of every citizen and that the government aims to simplify processes for the public. She noted that digital birth and death certificates will be essential for accessing various services.
She further stated that by ensuring timely registration of births and deaths, citizens in Punjab can better protect their legal and civil rights.
