An 8-cent per unit rate is proposed for surplus power use under a three-year package

(Web Desk): There is good news for industrial and agricultural electricity consumers as the government has decided to introduce a Surplus Power Package to encourage the use of additional electricity.
According to sources, the Power Division is currently reviewing various proposals related to the package, which will specifically benefit industrial and agricultural sectors. A concessional rate of 8 cents per unit has been proposed for the use of surplus electricity, with the package set to last for a period of three years.
The proposed Surplus Power Package will also include greenfield industries. Additionally, data centers and crypto mining operations will be eligible to benefit from the package.
On the other hand, the government's efforts to reduce electricity costs have faced a setback. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised objections to the Prime Minister’s relief initiatives, stating that no additional subsidies should be allocated in the budget to provide cheaper electricity.
