Earlier, both the National Assembly and the Senate had approved the legislation

(Web Desk): The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has rejected the bill passed by the National Assembly and Senate prohibiting marriage under the age of 18.
According to reports, a meeting of the Council was convened today to discuss several key issues. The meeting was chaired by Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology.
During the session, the Council deliberated on the important social issue of child marriage. Although both the National Assembly and the Senate have already approved the legislation, the Council unanimously rejected the bill prohibiting marriage under the age of 18.
Also on the agenda was the Mandatory Thalassemia Screening Bill 2025, and an inquiry from NAB (National Accountability Bureau) regarding the Shariah status of various projects/schemes.
In addition, the agenda included a Lahore High Court ruling regarding mehr (dower) in cases of khula (divorce initiated by the wife), the Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2025 for Islamabad, the Child Marriage Restraint Act sent by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, and a review of the Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill 2025.
