River erosion worsens in Dera Ghazi Khan


Rawalpindi: The spillways of Rawal Dam have been opened after the water level rose significantly, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The NDMA stated that the spillways were opened once the water level in the dam reached 1,750.20 feet. As a result, the expected water discharge is between 250,000 to 280,000 cusecs, and there is also a likelihood of increased water flow in the Korang Nullah.
Meanwhile, in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Taunsa region, river erosion in the Indus River continues to worsen. In Beat Mor Jhangi, more houses and land have been swallowed by the river. Local residents are urging authorities to construct protective embankments to prevent further loss.
The administration has responded by stating that due to the presence of water, a survey to assess the damage will be conducted next month.
On the weather front, the Meteorological Department has forecast rain in parts of Pothohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir today. Meanwhile, partly cloudy skies are expected in Karachi and other coastal areas.
