The trio conducted practical experiments in quantum physics that have proven crucial for the development of next-generation quantum technologies

(Web Desk): The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three American scientists — John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis.
According to Reuters, the trio conducted practical experiments in quantum physics that have proven crucial for the development of next-generation quantum technologies such as quantum cryptography, quantum computers, and quantum sensors.
The scientists carried out their research in the 1980s using electrical circuits made from superconductors, which allowed for the observation of quantum mechanical effects on a larger scale.
Their discoveries paved the way for everyday technologies, including transistors in computer chips, which are now fundamental components in our mobile phones and other electronic devices.
Upon receiving the award, Professor John Clarke from the University of California, Berkeley, expressed his surprise, saying he had never imagined that his work would be considered so important.
Professor Michel Devoret, affiliated with Yale University and the University of California, Santa Barbara, also shared her delight at receiving the prize. The third laureate, John Martinis, is also a professor at UC Santa Barbara and served as the head of Google’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab until 2020.
The Nobel Prize amount of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately 1.2 million US dollars) will be equally divided among the three scientists.
The Nobel Prizes were established through the will of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, and have been awarded since 1901 in the fields of science, literature, and peace.
This year’s Physics Prize is the second Nobel award of the week, following the announcement of the Medicine Prize. The Chemistry Prize will be announced on October 8, followed by the Peace Prize on October 10.
