NEPRA abolishes requirement for licence for solar consumers with 25 kilowat capacity

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has abolished the requirement for a licence for solar consumers with a capacity of 25 kilowatts or less.

According to a NEPRA spokesperson, the Power Division had written to the regulator on the special instructions of Federal Minister Awais Leghari.

NEPRA stated that the Power Division had requested the removal of the licensing requirement for solar users with systems of up to 25 kilowatts. Following this communication, NEPRA has issued a formal notification eliminating the licence condition for such consumers.

It is worth noting that NEPRA had earlier announced that all solar users connected to the national grid would be required to obtain a licence, with a fee of Rs1,000 per kilowatt. Prior to that announcement, licences were only required for solar consumers with loads exceeding 25 kilowatts.

However, the regulator has now withdrawn the licensing requirement for solar systems of 25 kilowatts and below.
