Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has made record repayments of twenty billion dollars in foreign loans in last two and a half years.

While addressing a ceremony in connection with Roshan Digital Account crossing five hundred million dollars mark in remittances, Imran Khan said that Pakistan’s economy is progressing despite many challenges including that of coronavirus pandemic.
Referring to the increase in the exports especially at a time of global crisis due to Covid-19, PM said that country’s exports have been more than its competitors including India and Bangladesh.
“Our textile industry is progressing with opening of new textile mills. The efforts by government team to improve exports as well as remittances in the Roshan Digital Pakistan Accounts have helped stabilizing the rupee against dollar,” he said.
Terming overseas Pakistanis as ‘biggest asset’, Imran Khan said that around 88,000 Roshan Digital Accounts have been opened in 97 countries.
“I have directed the State Bank of Pakistan (SPB) to open a special cell to facilitate those overseas who are willing to open Roshan Digital Account,” he said.
Imran Khan said that banking sector has a pertinent role in ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Program’ as well as the promotion of small and medium enterprises.
Earlier, SBP Governor Raza Baqir had said that overseas Pakistanis from 97 countries had opened Roshan digital accounts.
We are providing investment opportunities to overseas Pakistanis. The number of digital accounts is increasing with each passing day and it has achieved the remittances target of 500 million dollars,” he added.
