Australian man banned from leaving Israel for 8,000 years
Noam Huppert, an Australian national living in Israel, cannot leave the country for 8,000 years
Sydney: An Australian citizen living in Israel has been banned from traveling for 8,000 years, till the time he doesn't pay $3 million in future child support.
According to international media, Noam Huppert, a 44-year-old Australian, is an analytical chemist by profession and works for an Israeli pharmaceutical company.
Huppert was married in Israel and had moved to Israel in 2012 to be with his two kids who were three months and five years old respectively at the time. Huppert's ex-wife moved court to file for divorce. Noam Huppert has to pay child support of over $3 million.
According to reports, an Israeli court passed a "stay-of-exit" order, disallowing him from leaving the country until December 31 in the year 9999 effectively for the next 8000 years.
Huppert must pay 5,000 shekels (£1,200) a month for each of his two children until they turn 18, as per the court ruling. It is unclear if he should pay the entire sum in advance to lift the stay of exit order.
Noam Huppert told an international newspaper that he had been trapped in Israel for many years and could not leave there under any circumstances, adding that there are still many people who married an Israeli woman like him and he is now a prisoner here as per the local law.
