Doha: Brazilian captain Neymar da Silva Santos suffered a sprained ankle in his team's win over Serbia in FIFA World Cup 2022 and faces a medical assessment in the next 48 hours, the national team doctor said.
Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said the Brazilian player suffered the injury after a collision with his opponent. Neymar was substituted in the 79th minute of Brazil's 2-0 win over Serbia.
"We need to wait 24 to 48 hours to have a better assessment," Lasmar said, adding that "We have not scheduled any Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and today (Friday) we'll have a new assessment”.
The doctor further added, "We need to wait, we cannot make any premature comments about his progress".
In the meantime, Brazil head coach Tite insisted, "We are confident Neymar will continue playing in the World Cup".
The pictures showed that his right ankle was heavily swollen, he sat with his face covered while getting treated.
