COAS urges UN and Security Council to act on Kashmir issue

Islamabad: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has urged the United Nations to enable Peacekeeping Missions to be more effective in addressing the complex threats while assuring the safety and security of the peacekeepers.

He was the keynote speaker at a meeting arranged in advance of the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting here on August 30 and 31.

Delegates from several nations, senior UN officials, and members of the diplomatic community in Islamabad attended the meeting, which Pakistan and Japan co-hosted on the theme of the Safety and Security of Peacekeepers.

The army general praised the UN's role in preserving international peace in his remarks and emphasized the growing difficulties and unprecedented levels of dangers that Peacekeepers face.

The army chief further highlighted that Pakistan aspired to create a region where peace prevailed and trade, transit and investment generated prosperity for all the states of South, West and Central Asia.

Additionally, he urged the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to support a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in line with their resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
