Last day to shut down unregistered VPNs
PTA said that VPN registration is necessary for national security and data protection
Islamabad: Today is the last day of the deadline for the shutdown of unregistered Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
According to media reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has registered more than 27,000 VPNs so far, and the Ministry of Interior will decide to extend the registration date.
It is also reported that the registration date of VPNs is likely to be extended. The cyber security can be improved through registered VPNs.
The media reports suggest that a crackdown will be launched against unregistered VPNs if the date is not extended.
In this regard, the PTA said that VPN registration is necessary for national security and data protection.
It is pertinent to note that the IT industry, freelancers, and other stakeholders have demanded an extension of the date in this regard.
The PTA had set the deadline for VPN registration as November 30.
