Law violators during sit-ins should be punished severely: PM
He said that progress of legal action against those who spread chaos in will be reviewed weekly
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that those who took the law into their own hands during the sit-ins should be punished as per the law.
A meeting of the task force formed to investigate the November 24 sit-in riots was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah and other senior officers participated.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed that the weapons, cartridges, and shells found as a result of the firing and other evidence had been collected from the scene of the incident. All the evidence will be sent for forensics. The process of identifying the rioters present at the scene of the incident is also being completed quickly. After identification, all the rioters will be presented in the courts.
Talking to the participants of the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that the progress of legal action against those who spread chaos in the country will be reviewed weekly, and those who violate the law during sit-ins, damage government property, and injure and martyr law enforcement officials should be punished as per the law.
He stated that the troublemakers attacked the country's capital during the visit of the President of Belarus to Pakistan, which caused great embarrassment for them, and a world-class anti-riot force will be formed in Pakistan according to the requirements of the present day.
Shehbaz Sharif further said that a forensic lab will be added to Islamabad Safe City to bring it up to international standards and all necessary resources will be utilized for this.
