NEPRA raises electricity tariff by Rs7.90 per unit

Islamabad: National Electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the price of electricity by Rs7.90 per unit.

The increase in electricity prices by NEPRA was made in the context of the May monthly fuel adjustment which will be collected in next month's bills. The people will be burdened with more than Rs 113 billion.

During the hearing, Chairman NEPRA remarked that it was not possible to provide relief to the consumers due to the high cost of imported fuel.

According to the CPPA, 8.80 percent of electricity was generated from furnace oil in May, earning Rs 33.67 per unit. Local gas produced 10%, imported LNG, 22.89%, and on water 24.50% of electricity was generated. More than 14.65 billion units of electricity were generated in May.
