Over hundred flights carrying flood relief items have landed in Pakistan so far

Karachi: As many as 134 international aid flights have arrived in Pakistan carrying tonnes of much-needed supplies for millions of people affected by devastating monsoon rains and floods.

These include 55 flights from the United Arab Emirates, 15 from Turkiye and 13 from UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 21 from the United States, 6 from Oman, 4 each from China and Qatar, 2 from Saudi Arabia, 4 from UNICEF and 3 from World Food Program, one each from Uzbekistan, France, Turkmenistan, Jordan, Nepal, the United Kingdom, and Russia.    

In addition to relief assistance flights, Pakistan also received 87 trucks of relief consignments from Tajikistan, one ship from Oman, 2 trucks and two trains of consignments each from Turkiye and Red Crescent.

Meanwhile, in continuation of humanitarian assistance, Tuesday’s two flights from Türkiye and the UNICEF carrying flood relief assistance landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

The flights contained relief items including tents, food, and medical supplies.  

The worst monsoon in nearly a decade also washed away in Pakistan which is already grappling with political and economic turmoil.

Over 33 million have been affected by the raging floods, causing a staggering loss of around $30 billion in damages to an already weakened infrastructure. The deluges also posed a serious threat to food security.

Besides all the troubles, hundreds of thousands of displaced people are also dealing with outbreaks of waterborne, skin diseases, with medical experts warning of a higher number of deaths from diseases.
