The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is being observed today, to promote participation of women and girls in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
This year's theme of the day is "Innovate, Demonstrate, Elevate, Advance, Sustain."
In a message on the occasion, the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stressed the need to promote women and girl scientists through scholarships, internships, and training programs and to provide them a platform to succeed in professional life.
Turning to Twitter he wrote: “We must promote gender equality in science by affirming women’s rights & breaking down stereotypes”.
Let's all do our part to fill classrooms, laboratories & boardrooms with women scientists, he added.
More women and girls in science equals a better future for all.
