Indian wrestling chief faces charges of sexual harassment
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is charged by Delhi Police for sexually harassing female athletes.
Delhi: President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has been charged by the Delhi police following allegations of sexual harassment made by female athletes.
The charges include assault, stalking, and sexual harassment, as confirmed by senior Delhi police official Suman Nalwa.
A charge sheet has been filed in court, and further legal proceedings will take place there, including the framing of charges and the trial.
Singh, who denies all allegations, has not been arrested at this time.
While initially accused of harassing a minor, Singh has not been charged under India's child abuse laws as the alleged victim and their father withdrew their accusations.
The Delhi police faced criticism for their initial slow response but launched an investigation following intervention by the Supreme Court.
The charges against Singh emerged in January when leading wrestlers demanded an inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment against him.
The WFI denied the allegations at the time but stated that an inquiry was underway.
