Shehbaz becomes PML-N President unopposed

Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was elected as Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President unopposed on Friday while Maryam Nawaz became Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer of the party.

Both the key leaders were elected in the general council meeting of the party held in Islamabad.

The general council of PML-N also elected federal minister Ahsan Iqbal as the Secretary General while Ishaq Dar was given the responsibilities of President for overseas and international affairs, as well as finance secretary.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) Atta ullah Tarar got elected as deputy secretary general while Marriyum Aurangzeb was given the responsibilities of central information secretary.

The PML-N general council was also attended by party’s chairman Raja Zafar ul Haq, Rana Sanaullah, the president of PML-N Punjab; Shah Muhammad Shah, the president of PML-N Sindh; Amir Muqam, the president of PML-N KP; and Shah Ghulam Qadir, the president of PML-N AJK.

Former Prime Minister and former Senior Vice President of the party Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was conspicuous by his absence during the meeting.

Furthermore, Marriyum Aurangzeb presented a resolution that expressed full confidence in the leadership of PML-N’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif. The resolution also paid rich tribute to Shehbaz Sharif and honored the courageous martyrs of Kashmir.
