‘Humanity first’; Edhi Foundation offers help to India in fight against deadly Covid-19 outbreak
Karachi: As India is struggling against the deadly coronavirus outbreak, Pakistan’s most trusted and experienced Edhi Foundation has offered to extend a helping hand to India during Covid-19 crisis.

According to details, the head of Edhi Foundation Faisal Edhi has written a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he has extended help in the form of a fleet of 50 ambulances along with the requisite services.
“Our organization understands the gravity of situation, and we wish to lend you our full support, without any inconvenience to you, which is why we will arrange all the necessary supplies that our team needs to assist the people in India. Importantly, we are not requesting any other assistance from you, as we are providing the fuel, food, and other necessary amenities that our team will require,” the letter read.
The letter further stated that the team consisting of medical technicians, office staff, drivers and supporting staff request India’s permission to enter the country.
“We are ready to deploy our team into any critical areas of concern at your direction without hesitation,” the letter concluded.

India’s current Covid wave has taken on frightening proportions, driven in part by a new variant of the virus which has double mutations. Earlier this week, India overtook Brazil as the country with the second-highest number of cases in the world, behind the USA. Experts are concerned that given the low testing rate, India possibly has higher number of cases than either US or Brazil.
On Friday, the country reported almost 3.3 lakh new Covid-19 cases, and 2,263 deaths. Real numbers could be much higher, with crematoriums and graveyards both running out of space across the country.
