Karachi to receive fresh spell of monsoon rains: PMD

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday projected that this week will bring more monsoon rains to the country, including Karachi.

The Met office stated in a statement that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are anticipated to enter the upper and central areas of the nation starting on July 18 (night) and are likely to become more intense on July 19.

The Met Office predicted that between July 20 and July 22 there might be sporadic intervals of dust-thunderstorm, rain, and rain (with isolated heavy rainfall) in Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, and other parts of the province due to the impact of these meteorological systems.

While the districts of Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu are expected to get rain from July 19 to July 23, it was noted.

Meanwhile, the PMD said rain/wind-thundershower (with heavy falls) is expected in Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, D.I Khan, Bannu, Karak and Waziristan from 18th (night) to 23rd July with occasional gaps.

Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad are expected to receive monsoon rain July 19 night to July 21 with occasional gaps.

According to the Met office, between Tuesday night and July 22 there is a chance of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore. Landslides are also possible in the prone regions of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
