Ali Zafar urges government to cancel exams

Karachi: Acclaimed Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar has urged Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood to cancel exams and review government’s policy regarding examinations.

On his official twitter handle, the singer using the hashtag #CancelExamsSaveStudents wrote, “Sir, it may be best to cancel. It was and will always be impossible to observe required compliance”.

He further added, “Jaan hai to jahaan hai” followed by a smiley.

In an earlier announcement by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, it was revealed that the government has decided to conduct the exams as scheduled.

Recently, following the new wave of celebrity support Mehwish Hayat also spoke on the matter and requested cancellation of exams.

"Not only is it dangerous with the third wave taking hold but is unfair when education has been so disrupted," she noted, requesting Mahmood to follow other countries in cancelling exams.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has reported around 4,487 new cases of coronavirus.

According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), 142 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 17,329.

The total number of confirmed cases reached to 804,939.

As many as 699,816 patients have recovered from the disease with 5,075 critical cases.
