Islamabad: The day marks the death anniversary of senior investigative journalist and analyst of Pakistan Arshad Sharif.
According to details, Arshad Sharif was shot dead on Nairobi Magadi highway Kenya on October 23, 2022 in mistaken identity at a checkpoint by police.
Arshad Sharif did Masters of Science in Public Administration from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. He started his journalistic career as freelancer in 1993.
The government of Pakistan formed Special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for the investigation of Arshad Sharif’s murder who visited Dubai and Kenya and submitted the initial report to the court.
Due to the lack of interest and non-appearance of the witnesses, a local court in Islamabad stopped the trail of Arshad Sharif murder case. The case is still under trial in the Supreme Cout of Pakistan.
Talking to GNN, Arshad Sharif’s wife has demanded transparent investigation and justice for the murder of her husband. It has been a year since the murder of senior journalist, however no clue or proof of his murder and murderers have been found as yet.
Arshad, undoubtedly a seasoned journalist, was one of Pakistan’s top news anchors. He was popular among journalists across the country. Sharif was awarded ‘Presidential Pride of Performance’ for his exceptional journalism in 2019.
Things We Know So Far
1. Mr. Sharif died on the spot under a hail of bullets sprayed by police officers.
2. The fatal shooting occurred around 9:00 pm Sunday night at Magadi Police Station.
3. The deceased was being driven by his friend, Khurram Ahmed. They were reportedly on their way from Kwenia in Magadi.
4. One bullet penetrated the back of 50-year-old journalist's head and exited the front.
5. The shooting hit the vehicle from all sides, leaving it with nine bullet holes on the left side of the windscreen, where the slain journalist was sitting; two bullet holes on the rear left back screen, one bullet hole on the rear right door, four holes on right side of the boot, and one front right tyre that had been deflated.
