OGRA announces increase in LPG prices

Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Monday announced an increase in the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

According to the notification, the price of LPG per kilogram was set at Rs234.72, reflecting a Rs12 per kilogram hike while the price of an 11.8 kilogram domestic cylinder was increased by Rs1.43.

The new prices came into effect in July.

It was earlier reported that LPG was being sold at significantly higher prices than the government-fixed rate, with an additional Rs 35 being charged over the official prices.

Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, Irfan Khokar, mentioned that the market price varies across the country, with LPG being sold at Rs 270 to 280 per kilogram, above the government’s fixed price of Rs 234.60 per kilogram.

Following a tragic gas cylinder explosion in Hyderabad, which claimed the lives of 27 people, including children, the Sindh government ordered action against illegal refilling shops.

The Sindh Home Department directed all Deputy Commissioners across the province to take immediate action against illegal LPG/LNG refilling stations and to ensure their relocation outside city limits.

The government also mandated the inspection of LPG/LNG stations, the seizure of non-standard cylinders, and the closure of shops operating without licenses.
