Dhaka: Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Younus has been sworn in as the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s new interim government.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath during a ceremony at Bangabhaban.

The interim government will be consisted of 15 cabinet members which include two leaders from the students’ movement. However, no politician has been included in this interim set-up.

According to the Bangladesh media, this interim government has been tasked with restoring public order and preparing the country for the next general elections, following weeks of political turmoil and protests.
  
The appointment of Dr Yunus, known globally for his work in microfinance and social business, has been seen by many as a move to bring credibility and stability during this transitional period.
