Alleged Indian agent handed over to police for physical remand

Karachi: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Karachi handed over the suspected agent of the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to the police on two-day physical remand in the case of possession of illegal arms and explosives.

According to the media report, a day before this, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) had claimed that RAW agent Muhammad Saleem had been arrested from Maripur area.

They have claimed to have recovered illegal arms, explosives and documents from the possession of an alleged Indian spy.

Yesterday, the investigating officer of the case produced the accused before the ATC judge in Clifton and requested for 14-day police custody for further investigation.

However, the court remanded the accused in police custody for two days and directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report on the next date.

According to SIU officials, a hand grenade, a rocket launcher, nine mm pistol and several fake service cards of various departments were seized during the operation.

The investigating officer said that several passports and identity cards with different names were also recovered from him, while the evidence and documents revealed that the accused had gone to India several times via Nepal.

The investigating officer claimed that the accused was allegedly collecting sensitive information and carrying out subversive activities in Karachi on behalf of RAW.

A case has been registered at the SIU police station under Section 23 (1) of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
