ECP had reserved decision to disqualify PTI Senator on Jan 7
Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed the disqualification reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Saifullah Abro.
The Election Commission, while giving a reserved decision, dismissed the petition of Senator Shahadat Awan and Majid Mahmood.
It is pertinent to note that a three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja heard the reference filed in the ECP for the disqualification of PTI Senator Saifullah Abro.
The ECP had reserved its decision on the petition filed for the disqualification of PTI Senator Saifullah Abro on January 7.
It is noteworthy that the reference for the disqualification of Senator Saifullah was sent to the ECP by Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani, in which it was stated that Saifullah does not meet the requirements for the technocrat seat despite the pending National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference.
The reference stated that the information provided in the affidavit regarding dependents, agricultural income, and assets is misleading, and the wealth statement submitted with the nomination papers concealed the agricultural land owned by his children.
The Chairman Senate said: “Under Article 63 (2), I submit this question to the ECP under Clause (3) of Article 63. The ECP should decide whether Senator Saifullah Abro has become disqualified for membership in the Senate”.
