Death toll in Philippine military plane crash reaches 50
Sulu: At least 59 people have been killed and dozens more sustained injuries after a military plane crashed in the Philippines.
According to details, the transport aircraft named as Lockheed C-130 was carrying 96 people mostly military personnel, when it overshot a runway at Jolo airport in province on Sunday.
The defence ministry said that three civilians on the ground were also killed. Many others who were on board had only recently completed basic military training.
The plane, which came down at 11:30 local time (03:30 GMT) a few kilometers from the town of Jolo, was carrying troops from Cagayan de Oro, on the southern island of Mindanao.
"It missed the runway, trying to regain power but it didn't make it," armed forces chief Gen Sobejana told reporters.
A military plane crashed and broke up in flames in the southern Philippines on Sunday with 92 people on board.
