Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, says letter addresses several issues

Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has written a letter to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, urging him to reconsider the country’s policies.
Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, spoke to the media outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Khan is currently being held, and explained the contents of the letter.
Chaudhry said that Imran Khan had written a six-point letter to the army chief. In the letter, Khan expressed his support for the military in its fight against terrorism and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the soldiers. He emphasized that the whole nation should stand with the armed forces.
The lawyer explained that the letter addresses several issues. The first point highlights concerns over "fraudulent elections" and the alleged promotion of money launderers in politics. The second point discusses how the 26th Constitutional Amendment has affected judicial independence and the rule of law. Khan also mentioned the Al-Qadir Trust case verdict in his letter.
The third point in the letter criticizes the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), claiming it has been used to suppress free speech and target social media platforms. The fourth point focuses on the actions taken against PTI workers, including terrorism charges, raids, and the use of force. Khan also expressed concerns over threats to journalists, which he believes harm the military’s reputation.
The fifth point addresses the operations of intelligence agencies, and the final point discusses the country's struggling economy. Khan stated that the current government has weakened the economy by controlling the rupee’s value and raised concerns about low investment and internet shutdowns.
Chaudhry added that Khan called for the formation of a judicial commission to address these issues and reconsider policies.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan clarified that the letter does not suggest a "policy shift." He explained that Imran Khan wrote the letter in his capacity as a former prime minister and emphasized the need to reevaluate policies. The text of the letter will be made public soon. Barrister Gohar also stated that PTI does not want chaos and reaffirmed that "Pakistan Army is ours."
