International Chocolate Day being observed today
World Chocolate Day, also known as the International Chocolate Day is being observed on Wednesday (today).
The day is observed to celebrate chocolate, and lovers of chocolate around the world enjoy different kinds of chocolates on this day. This year the day will be celebrated to express your love with chocolates.
The first World Chocolate Day was celebrated in the year 2009.
Some officials suggest that the day is celebrated on 7 July because it was the day when chocolate was introduced to Europe in the year 1550.
People of all age groups can observe this day with great enthusiasm.
Chocolate lovers also celebrate this day by gifting chocolates to their loved ones. There are various kind of chocolates and almost everyone loves some or the kind.
Besides being incredibly delicious, chocolate also has various health benefits.
According to legends, chocolate came into existence in 450 BC. It first originated in Mesoamerica where fermented beverages were created out of the beans from inside the cacao pods.
The Aztecs believed that cacao seeds were the gift of Quetzalcoatl, who, according to legend, was cast away by the other gods for sharing chocolate with humans.
The seeds once had so much value that they were used as a form of currency.
Word ‘Chocolate’ is of Spanish origins and was derived from the classical Nahuatl word xocolātl
