Digital registration of births, deaths in hospitals begins
NADRA is developing CRVS registration system on modern lines

Islamabad: Promoting electronic and digital vision under the Government of Pakistan’s ‘Uran Pakistan’ program, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), in collaboration with provincial governments, has started working on providing a digital system for reporting births and deaths in hospitals and health centers across the country.
According to a media report, NADRA is developing a civil registration and vital events (CRVS) registration system on modern lines under the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework.
Under this system, information on vital events like births and deaths will be obtained directly through digital tools provided in hospitals and health centers, which will enable timely, accurate, and complete registration in the database of citizens.
The information obtained from this system will not only strengthen the citizen database but will also play an important role in promoting economic activities with the help of technology under the ‘Uran Pakistan’ program. Revolutionary projects related to digital ID and digital economy will be implemented on the basis of this data.
With the support of the World Bank and in collaboration with various national institutions, NADRA is also working on the implementation of the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).
In addition, a series of collaboration agreements are also underway between provincial governments and NADRA to improve the civil registration system. Under these agreements, a digital system will be provided for birth and death notification in hospitals and health centers across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Recently, a ceremony was held in Karachi in this regard, in which the Provincial Minister for Local Government and Housing and Town Planning, Saeed Ghani, participated. On this occasion, the Secretary of Health and the Secretary of Local Government signed the agreement on behalf of the Sindh government, while the Director General of NADRA Karachi signed the agreement.
Earlier, a similar agreement was signed in Quetta, which was signed by the Secretary of Health of Balochistan, the Secretary of Local Government, and the Director General of NADRA Balochistan.
Similar agreements will be signed with the governments of other provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next few days.
